New Haven Ballet Classes
New Haven Ballet Presents:
Tiny Dancers (Ages 4-5): 4:45 PM- 5:30 PM
Through music, rhythm, and imaginative play, children discover the joy of movement while learning the basic positions and posture of classical ballet. This gentle, creative class nurtures coordination, confidence, and focus in a warm, supportive environment, the perfect first step in your child's ballet journey.
Session 1: Creative Movement: Tuesdays, Sept. 1st- Oct. 6th
Children explore rhythm, tempo, and musical expression as they are introduced to the world of dance. This session emphasizes listening skills, gross motor control, and imagination through movement. Recommended for young students with little or no dance experience.
Session 2: Pre-Dance: Tuesdays, Oct. 13th - Nov. 24th.
Recommended for children who have acquired the creative movement skill concepts introduced in the first session or previous dance experience. This class introduces ballet fundamentals through expression, music, and stories.
Ballet Beginnings (Grades 1-2): 5:30 PM-6:15 PM
Young dancers build a strong foundation in classical ballet technique while continuing to explore musicality, creativity, and expression. This class balances structure with imagination, helping students develop grace, strength, and confidence as they grow in both skill and artistry.
Session 1: Ballet Foundations: Tuesdays, Sept. 1st- Oct. 6th
New dancers strengthen posture, balance, and coordination through an introduction to basic ballet technique. Creative exercises help them connect classical steps with musicality and fluid movement.
Session 2: Dynamic Dancers: Tuesdays, Oct. 13th - Nov. 24th.
Dancers combine growing technical skills with storytelling, learning how ballet brings character and emotions to life. This session emphasizes ballet positions, basic traveling patterns, and fundamental ballet movements. Recommended for students who are refining coordination and musical timing.
WINTER PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY! Nutcracker at the Shubert:
Dancers enrolled in classes have the exciting opportunity to participate in the Winter performance at the Shubert Theatre in downtown New Haven.
To be eligible, students must be registered in ALL sessions of their classes. Auditions will be held on Saturday & Sunday, September 19th-20th, at the New Haven Ballet's main studio in New Haven. Students will attend mandatory Saturday & Sunday afternoon rehearsals leading up to the performance, as well as theatre rehearsals during performance week.
The performance takes place at the Shubert Theatre, 247 College Street, New Haven, on December 11th-13th. A performance fee includes costume rental and participation in this unforgettable experience. Performing on stage is a wonderful way for young dancers to grow in confidence, teamwork, and joy.
We encourage all eligible students to audition!

They have been providing the highest caliber professional classical ballet training and dance education in southern Connecticut for over thirty years. Students in the Children's Division will develop a love of dance and music through age-appropriate movement classes.
